Reuse
We are working to advance technologies that allow us to reuse greater amounts of recycled materials in our packaging.
Making packaging 'reuseful'
By pioneering packaging reuse, Coca-Cola Amatil (CCA) is driving demand for recycled material around Australia. Our need for recycled material results in an increased number of recycling plants and improved efforts to recycle in the community.
Empty bottles - full of potential
We see our used packaging as a valuable resource, not just waste or litter. For example, our 'Give it Back' Recycling program gives away prizes made from reused materials such as t-shirts and caps made from a blend of recycled PET and cotton.
Investing in our future
Since introducing the first-ever beverage container with recycled PET in 1991, we have continued to invest significant dollars in development of environmentally and economically viable recycling technologies. Today, we lead the industry in the innovative use of recycled plastic and on average we use 15-20% recycled content in our PET bottles.
National Packing Covenant (NPC)
CCA is a founding member of Australia's National Packaging Covenant, a joint initiative established in 1999 between government and industry to manage the environmental impacts of consumer packaging, as well as highlighting the importance of packaging minimisation through the supply chain. The NPC has provided more than $21 million in funding to increase packaging reuse.
Packaging Stewardship Forum
The Packaging Stewardship Forum (PSF) was established in 2006 in Australia to increase resource recovery of food and beverage packaging and reduce littering. CCA has been a major contributor to the PSF since it was established and is working on projects to increase packaging reuse with the involvement of community groups, local government and other associations. The PSF is the single largest source of funds for the Keep Australia Beautiful Network.
